The ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) of India's new report suggests that India's solar energy capacity expanded by 5.525 MW in 2016-2017. This report also proves that India doubled the solar energy capacity from the previous year 2015-2016. The cumulative target in this regard is 17000MW by the end of 2016-2017.

In the ranking of cumulative solar capacity currently, Andhra Pradesh is leading. For the last 3 years, Rajasthan was in the leading position. Due to the low tariff, solar energy consumption will start to increase in the following years.
