Advantages And Disadvantages Of Solar Energy - Windvoltz

Solar Energy- The Renewable Energy

advantages and disadvantages of solar energy

Solar energy is nothing but the radiant energy emitted by the Sun. Solar is the Latin word for ‘SUN’. Solar energy is put to use by evolving technologies like Solar Heating, Photovoltaics, Solar Thermal Energy, Molten salt power plants and Artificial Photosynthesis. Solar energy is a high appealing source of electricity because of its large magnitude. It has become the world’s fastest growing source of power as per the report given by the International Energy Agency.

Solar energy has both advantages and disadvantages. Mentioned below are few advantages and disadvantages of Solar energy:

Advantages-

  • Solar energy is Renewable energy source
  • This kind of energy also reduces the electricity bills
  • Solar energy can be used for diverse purposes (produce electricity, distil water, it can also be made into materials used for buildings).
  • Low maintenance cost of solar energy systems.
To produce electricity for households, schools and communities in remote areas, PV panels are used increasingly. PV panels are also used for supplying power to water pumps and telecommunication.

 Disadvantages-

  • The price of purchasing solar system is really high.
  • The solar energy is always depended on the weather.
  • The storage of solar energy is really expensive.
  • Solar energy consumes a lot of space.
These are the advantages and disadvantages of solar energy.

Solar energy is useful

The Sun helps our planet as a powerful source by giving us pure and reusable energy to power our world. The human race can be now less dependent on more costly and damaging source of power as solar energy is free of cost and does not create pollution. Solar energy is cost effective, user friendly so that they can easily beat the fossil fuels. By promoting the use of solar energy or any form of renewable energy, we can avoid air pollution, water pollution and soil pollution and make the Earth a better place to live in. Solar Energy News -100 KW Solar Power Plant By Cochin Port Trust

Solar Energy Power Plant By Cochin Port Trust - A Motivational Move

Solar Energy News -100 KW Solar Power Plant By Cochin Port Trust

Cochin port trust is showing a good example in case of energy consumption by using solar energy for their various needs.  CPT already commissioned a power plant using solar energy in last March.  It was a plant constructed at a cost of about 1 crore Indian rupees. The plant capacity is 150kW and they are using this energy for meeting the energy requirement of Cochin Port Trust quarters.

Now CPT is planning to build the second power plant with a capacity of 100 Kilo Watt. This time CPT is constructing this solar energy power plant in its pump house located at Willington Island in Cochin, Kerala. The budget calculated for this plant is 85 lakhs INR. CPT is trying to reduce the power consumption from Kerala State Electricity Board. Their target is to bring the power procurement from KSEB down by at least twenty percent.  So they are planning to install more solar energy power plants in future. This good move by CPT is motivational to other organizations as well as to the public to install solar panels on their rooftops; as the hydroelectric power generation in our state is not able to meet the huge demand of energy consumption in Kerala.

This good move from Cochin Port Trust will help the people in Willington Island. Providing power to people in remote areas using solar energy is the less expensive way. And now government agencies are providing such a good option for people living in remote areas. The return on investment in this project is really high. The solar energy which is an unending source of energy will help them to yield clean energy easily. One of the main advantages of the solar power plant is that we can increase the number of solar panels according to our needs. We wish to have more solar power plants in Kerala by which the power scarcity can be reduced.
